Douglass Mackey was just found guilty of “Conspiracy Against Rights.” Basically the EDNY thought that him posting memes of trolling Clinton supporters into thinking a text vote was a real vote was a “threat to democracy.” Everyone with a brain knows what he did was satire and anyone who engaged with him probably knew it was satire. The authorities got butt-hurt and charged him with a bogus crime. FREE SPEECH IN AMERICA IS DEAD.
The State Of Comedy
If political comedy is dead then we have no peaceful way of criticizing the absurdity of our leaders. The culture war non-sense is the only comedy that exists today as it creates a bogeyman for the right and a deflection for the left. But you don’t see too much comedy that eviscerates the people actually running things.
Conservative Laziness
Many will not care about this as they say “New York is a leftist shithole, it won’t happen in a red area.” I say to you that you are delusional. Conservatives can move to red areas all they want, but they will do nothing to preserve conservatism. They don’t vote in school board meetings, and the don’t vote in local elections. Conservatives have deluded themselves into thinking that Daddy Trump is the answer. Conservatives diminish their own power by not voting in easy to win elections like school board and local.
You as a regular person have more power to sway things in a local election than a federal one. A federal election can only be swayed your way if you plant the seeds at the local level. But conservatives are too lazy and too stupid to do anything about it. The prosecution of Douglass Mackey can be blamed on conservatives being lazy. You cannot change the system unless you change your local government, which is an easy battle for competent citizens to win.
